I love Fall

I love fall.
I love the smell of wood burning as I pass down the road.
I love a good bonfire with burnt marshmallows.
I love the colors that appear from no where with all the foliage.
This year I really thought that I would be missing all the colors on the trees.
We have had a lack of rain which caused a lot of the trees to turn brown.
But all of a sudden out of no where God surprised me with all the wonder it all.

Here are just a few pictures of what I enjoyed this fall.
I hope that you enjoy them too!

Call me....Dr. Susan

Yes, it is true
I did deliver a baby at Promise House.

Everyone ask: "O, so you would do it again since you have experience?"
I reply:  "You must be crazy!"

Our baby did come in less than 7 minutes
But our ambulance made it faster than that!!

Baby and Momma are doing just great!
Although the Promise House midwife is still in shock!

I think that if I ever decided to return to school
that Midwifery classes would be the one I would choose!

Baby weighed in at 7 1/2 pounds
He was 20 1/2 inches long with a head full of black curly hair.

He is beautiful
But then I would think so!

I spare all the details
but believe me it was all real!

This baby will always be special
Since I am the one who caught him and brought him into this world

For those of you that know me well
I did not pass out or panick

cause as the old saying goes:
If God can bring me to it.
He will bring me through it!
Yes, I truly believe it now!

Busy As A Bee....O Me!

Better late than never....Soldier B's Quilt

Our girls made the table decorations for the Welcome Back Teachers Luncheon.

The teachers enjoyed the "Whole Hog Cafe" pulled pork, BBQ beans and the Potato Salad
We had a Senior Adult Group come to paint our halls and Club rooms.

Another shot of the rooms.....
We even had help tightening and gluing the legs to our dining room chairs.

Then we had a couple of days off and we are back at work with our girls.

We did here from Soldier B from overseas on Sunday....He is doing well.
As for me....well, I can say one month down and 11 more to go!!!

Care Packages

I know a lot of people that read my blog either have family or friends in the military or have an interest in them and/or have adopted soldiers serving overseas... So I offer this list from a private chat group for families of 3ID soldiers. Some will evoke smiles and others are just plain fun and bound to bring a smile to your soldier.

Gail!) decorated shoes boxes for each of us on staff for Staff Day at church.  She, Gail, was so decorative with mine.  I only mention mine cause I can't remember anyone Else's.  Yes, I am getting old...er! My favorite color has always been purple and Gail did an outstanding job decorating with that color and music notes which was perfect since I was the pianist!

Now that I am finished blubbering on and on .....I am wondering if there might be more ideas out there that fellow readers may have thought of...something creative but just what that special soldier might need in a box from the good ol USA.  Post your idea.....I would love to see it!

Fabric Covered Hoe by Two little Hooligans

Fabric Covered Hoe

I came upon the above while strolling thru some different blogs.  I am always looking for great things to do with all of the fabric I inherited from my Momma.  Now I can see everything with a handle looking like the picture above.  Thanks Christina from Two Little Hooligans and Amy from Modge Podge Rocks for sharing.  I will be back to see you for more ideas.  Here is the link for the tutorial that Christina has on her page:  Fabric Covered Hoe .

Chic Click

I have been happily married for 26 1/2 years, well...except for some of those small discussions we have had thru out the years.  We have three grown children and two wonderful "in-laws" that take us as we are.  We also have one grandson that is the love of our life.  He will be 2 soon and when we are with him we have a blast!  I have been a retail salesperson, cashier, costume sewer, quilter, Barbie doll clother, lego maniac momma, birthday party designer, bike riding trainer, broke elbow holder, fishing tackle in the foot take to the ER to get out of the foot momma, hold on for dear life x3 driving trainer, Hammester finder, dog sitter, church pianist, preacher's wife, Army mom, worrying mom, and a million (I am sure!) other things that come with life,
I am currently serving as a Full-time Houseparent for Promise House.  PH is a home  for un-wed teenage girls.  We love on the girls while they are here during their pregnacy then we get to see the new baby.  Recently, we have started a new program where we have taken one mother and baby back to live with us.  Most of our girls and their baby go back to the placement they were at before coming to P.H.  So here I do my best to show them what a family life would be like if they were part of our family.  Not too sure if I succeed all the time.

If I had to chose a favorite post of mine I would choose  Momma's Quilts Host a Party.  My mom was a quilter so was her mother.  Momma left us all dozens upon dozens of quilt tops ready to be finished. I inherited 28 of those quilt tops.  As you can see in the post....a fun time was had by all.

I love this blog from Chic Click....time for some of you to check it out!
She has lots of tutorials of some awesome creations!

This is not simply a linky party, the purpose of the “Chic Click Carnival” is to introduce yourself and one fellow peep you found using the Visit Our Peeps widget.  You can to Skip to my Lou to find out all the directions for the fun we all are having!

Build A Bear Fun at Promise House

Most Fun Ever

We recently had a group of Senior Adults from our church known as the Keenagers give a donation so that we could take the girls to Build A Bear.  We were really hesistant about how they would like it or not.  I on the other hand was extremely excited to be able to go. I think the girls had no problem telling if I was or not.

A Girl Picking Out a Bear From the Wall

We went on a Thursday evening.  The Build A Bear here in our city was so extremely helpful with our group.  We had enough to plan it as a birthday party, of which it wasn't so I called it the Bear Party.  The girls were able to pick out which ever bear or animal that they wanted and the clothing with accessories to go with it.  They had a budget of $37 a piece.
A Girl Filling Out Her Bears Birth Certificate

I did not get my bear exactly when they got theirs but instead I wondered around looking and admiring the smiles on the faces of the girls.  They were so excited!  Most of the girls came to me at sometime and told me they were having a hard time choosing clothing for their bear.  One girl told me it was like shopping for herself!  My heart was happy.
Heather, Our Bear Party Guide

The girls were very patient with Heather, our party guide, as she helped them keep up with their dollar amounts so that they would not go over their budget.  (What a great Math class but was so much fun!)
The girls were able to get a picture as a group, their own birth certificate and we got BOGO 4 oz. ice cream cones from Baskin Robbins!
Yummi! in our tummies!

The babies they got to stuff at Build a Bear.

We want to give a very big thank you to our Keenagers!  You gave us a wonderful time with each other while the girls learned more addition and subtraction along with how to work a budget!  Thank You!

I Never Thought....

The following was written by my daughter, Becka, on Tuesday morning. I noticed the time cause if she is mine what is she doing up so early? As I read this I begin to laugh at alot of things that she and Ben did together as siblings although she did not include the frogs. But the more I read the tears begin to fall...How do I explain to the PH girls why I am crying ....and yes they do ask. My thoughts have rambled all day from the beginning of his life til now. Sometimes I think it is not fair what this world requires of our family serving in the military. But then I didn't think it was fair when God decided to call home my mom either. I have struggled with life and death since February 27, 2008.  The day my baby (yes, he admits this) flew on a plane to start his life with the Army at the age of 17 and the morning that my mom got up to go to the bathroom with her next steps being on the streets of gold in heaaven.  It won't be long and Ben will be serving for my freedom here on Earth halfway across the world.  That is something I am proud of  but I would not be a mother if it did not bother me to some degree.  I can only cling to the verse that I have used since we begin our full time ministry as preacher and his wife:  For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you HOPE and a future. Jeremiah 29:11

I Never Thought...

When I was 5 years old

and he was just newborn;

I never thought...

Then he became the 5

and I became the 10.

We dug holes in our backyard

to build a "swimming pool";

I never thought...

Once again 5 years passed

And I became a teen

as he lingered on the edge.

While I chased him with a fly swat;

I never thought...

When I reached my 20's

he was just a teenager

lost in his own dreams.

He missed me when I left,

because he lost someone to tease;

I never thought...

Now we're both adults,

and we're known as

the baby and the princess;

How dare we forget to mention

the chosen one of all,

who's stuck in the middle.

I never thought I would have to say,

"Brother, thank you for your service!"

I never thought I would see the day,

that precious baby boy

would be half a world away.

I never thought I would be so proud

of that rotten little baby boy.

Who's given up his freedom,

so that I can hold strong to mine.

I never thought...

A Laisy Day Saturday

Today has been a lazy daisey day!
Becka and Stormy are on their way back home.
The surprise that she gave to us by appearing on Wednesday evening was awesome!
We enjoyed the visit with her but then anytime we are around the family we are overly excited.

On Thursday afternoon we went and ate at

They have the best SUPREME SALAD and then to boot their Supreme pizza is good too.
By the way, the pizza is gluten free!

As we were driving out of the parking lot a friend from Lamar, drove into the parking lot.
So we met up in the Wal-greens parking lot where we visited with Jill for a few minutes.
Jill calls or comes by almost every time she is in Little Rock.
She is so sweet to do this for me...sure is a "happy" in the middle of my chaos most times!

We then headed to the New Balance Store to get my new shoes.
I must say that I call them my "Memaw" shoes (only because these are the shoes my mom had to wear) but they are quite comfortable.  I could almost sell you on them but then I don't think I would make
any commission on them!  lol!
This quote came from New Balance.com

Developed for all day comfort, this industry-leading motion control walking shoe is a perfect choice for those seeking maximum stability. The 927 features the ROLLBAR® for enhanced motion control and advanced cushioning ABZORB® SBS in the heel for exceptional shock absorption.

Becka and I hit the Party City here in LR and in NLR while daddy sat in the car!
We then got a visit at Hobby Lobby before we made it home for the day.

On Friday we ate out lunch at Sam's...talk about cost effiecient..$1.80 for a sausage dog and a drink.
After I had physicial therapy we took daddy home while we went to WalMart, Hobby Lobby and then $1 tree.  One day in the future I will be able to share what all this double store shopping is about but until then it is a secret! ha!  We ended our day at Shorty Smalls for supper.  Becka had never eaten there so we were able to share a different meal with her.
Then we went home to watch movies for the evening.

On Saturday, we ate at Olive Garden, they have the best salad and soup!
We came back home where she said her goodbyes and we got hugs from her and rubs for Stormy!

"Mrs. Susan, Can I really find true love like in the movies?"

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.       —I Corinthians 13:4-8a (NIV)

The question that is in my title was a recent question asked by a recent mother that was a momma to be in our house. I paused a minute or two or more before I replied: Well, first of all I would advise you to pray for the man that God has for you. Little Momma looked at me with a face full of question. Little Momma said with some disgust in her voice, I am not sure I can wait for God. Wow! This answer rocked my world. I was not surprised by this answer but she was so sincere with her answer.

We had been watching several movies (Selenia, The Secret Life of the Bees and Letters to Juliet) that showed the woman or girl star of the movie finding her true love including that "touching kiss" that all movies show. The typical movie that leads us all as young teenagers to believe that this is the true love we are all searching for thru our teenage and young adult lives. For those that have not been raised in a Christian home have not idea about the above verse. They have no true meaning in their lives of Christian love. The love that is patient, kind, does not envy, does not boast, is not proud, is not rude, is not self-seeking, is not easily angered, keeps no record of wrongs. But this love always: protects, trusts, perseveres and NEVER fails.

Many of the girls I know have had no one to protect them, no one that they can trust their life with, they do not know what the word perseveres means much less have had it in their life nor have they ever had anyone that was always there for them in the word of Love so love has always been a failure in their life. So if they have had none of these descriptions of Love then that also means that they have never developed the meaning of love: being patient, kind, no envy, to not boast, to not be proud, not be rude, not self-seeking, not easily answered, no records of wrongs. I have personally seen all of these definitions of love in each of my girls but more in the way of not having them in their personal life! In other words not being patient, they are envious of each other and others that seem to have more, they love to boast of what they really do not have, they can be rude but only because that is what they have been taught in life, they are self seeking only for themselves, anger is a huge problem within their live and they keep records of everyone that has done them wrong! This is what I have been working with them by showing them thru our lives what love is....not what love is not!

But now that I have this new question proposed to me thru what seems total innocence only because she only knows what she has been taught: To love is to look at the outside not at the heart. This is a huge thing that I see that needs to be taught just as I taught my own children while they were growing up. Now the question is where to begin. My first teaching would to use the following verse:

But the LORD said to Samuel, “…The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”   —I Samuel 16:7b (NIV)

I am in search of books, short stories and personal testimonies of women that have waited for God to show them their husband, that have prayed for what seemed to be forever till God showed you the man he had for you, or just how to share with a young teenager that has chose to have sex before marriage but wants to know what God would want for her to do in her life.

So, how about it, does anyone out there have something about the love in 1 Corinthians: 13: 4-8a that they can share with me so I can share with little momma and future little mommas to come?

I'm Back!

I have had some recent knee surgery this past Friday
I had a tear in my meniscus which was repaired
They also cleared my knee of debris from pieces of the spurs that were on my kneecap
Then they cleaned my kneecap of any spurs that were left growing inwards.
YIKES!
Yeah, I know but God has been so gracious to me this time around
Four years ago I had this same surgery and my recovery time was long, very long.
In the past three days I have advanced to where I can get up and walk with a cane by myself!

Although I believe that I need the following to make my job easier at Promise House
Hugo Boss Hugo 4.0 Elite Rolling Walker

This thing would become "My 4 Wheeler"
I could crawl over mountains and moleholes
hills and bills
awwww....I can only dream!

All the above was just an update to let you know I have more postst to come in our future!

To think that my doctor was right......

One of my favorite things to do is visiting
until my doctor told me back in January that I should give up Coke!...What!!
Rt. 44 Coke is was my favorite pastime.  No, not really, but very close!
So I have been very stuborn to give up my Coke even though I know that doing without the caffeine would so help me with my fibromaylgia pain level.

But two weeks ago this coming Friday I finally GAVE it up
I have even driven up to a Sonic, ordered the girls a drink and got myself a Rt. 44 water with extra ice.
For those of you that thought I owned stock in Sonic I know this is hard for you to believe!

So now my favorite drink is

water
and a glass of sweet non-caffeine sweet tea!

So I go to the doctor to weigh in this morning
I step on the scales and I weigh...
ta-da
5 pounds lighter!
(and to think you thought I was going to tell you my weight!)

The scales were in my favor

but then my doctor was correct!
I was a daily visitor to my favorite place
Now I drive by and sigh!

I am so excited that I can't wait to see how I do on my next visit to see the doctor.
